What about ectopic pregnancy?
Ectopic pregnancy is a tragic and rare condition where the embryo implants outside the womb. In most cases, the baby cannot survive. But it's not medically necessary to immediately remove the baby!
Abortion is never necessary, and it may become necessary to remove the child from the fallopian tubes, but this is not the same as intentional abortion. When doctors act to save the mother’s life, and the child’s death is an unintended result, this is not the same as abortion. The moral difference is the purpose. Abortion intends to kill; treatment in an ectopic case seeks to preserve life where possible (Exodus 21:22–23).
Christians should approach such cases with prayer, wisdom, and compassion, trusting God’s mercy even in sorrow.
With medical technology, doctors and nurses should monitor the mom and baby and only perform a removal when absolutely necessary. Invest effort into saving rather than killing!
Maybe if we are faithful to God in our efforts to save children, He will one day bless us with wisdom and technology to save babies in ectopic pregnancies!
