Does the Bible affirm the personhood of the unborn?

Question #100

Scripture treats the unborn as living persons known by God. Psalm 139, Jeremiah 1, and Luke 1 all testify that the Lord fashions, calls, and even fills children with the Holy Spirit (John the Baptist) while they are yet in the womb. Because God creates and values preborn life, the church must speak and act to defend it.

Exodus 21:22-24 makes it clear that there is a distinction for when a pregnant woman loses her child even accidentally. The man causing the death of her child is required to pay "life for life." How much more serious is it if someone intentionally murders the unborn?
